Coconut oil on your face?
Who would have thought coconut oil could be so wonderful for your skin?
Not only is your skin your body’s largest organ, it’s also the first thing people see and is a pretty accurate tell of your inner health as well.
On your next self-care night, try making a natural face mask as an activity. It’s something fun to whip up in the kitchen and a great way to take care of your skin at the same time. In the world of self-care, people have an abundance of options before them as resources for slowing down and taking time for themselves. Ironically, one of the largest areas that people tend to not have time for is a satisfying skincare routine.
Coconut oil seems to have become the beauty industry’s holy grail product in recent years. It’s high concentration of lauric acid, which has powerful hydration capabilities. It’s also universally beneficial for skin, hair, nails, and even inner health issues like heart health, metabolism deficiencies, and more.
It has a mixable consistency that makes it a great carrier for other ingredients too, making it widely usable. Coconut oil smells great, is widely available and affordable, and can be used on all skin types. Here are some face mask recipes using coconut oil for your next self-care night!
Coconut Turmeric Face Mask
What you’ll need:
- 1 tbsp. Coconut oil
- 1 tbsp. Turmeric
This dynamic duo of ingredients works together to hydrate skin while reducing the look of large pores. Melt the coconut oil in the microwave until it is clear, and this will be the mask’s main hydrator for your skin. (If you have oily skin and shy away from hydrating properties, fear not! Coconut oil is fantastic for oily skin). Spoon in some turmeric and mix it up until you have a bright yellow paste. Apply it to your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. You may feel a tingly sensation; this is normal. Wash it off and voila!
Coconut Sugar Mask
Now, for all our dry skin sufferers out there, this combination may drastically improve your flaky skin woes. The coconut oil will hydrate your skin while the tiny granules of sugar gently slough away the dead skin sitting on top of your pores. Instead of melting the coconut oil this time, you will want to spoon some into a bowl and gently mash it until it’s a smoother consistency. Then when you add in the sugar, gently mix it until it forms into a paste. Evenly apply the paste to your skin and leave it on for 5 minutes. Before washing it off, gently scrub your face to allow the sugar crystals to slough away the dead skin. Rinse off and you are done! Another holy grail product of the natural beauty industry is green tea. Used for centuries by the skincare goddesses themselves in Asian countries, green tea’s powerful antioxidants fight bacteria, calm redness, and can even treat mild forms of acne.
Green Tea Face Mask
What you will need:
- A brewed cup of green tea
- 1 tbsp. Baking soda
- 1 tbsp. Honey
Brew a cup of green tea as usual. Let the tea bag sit in hot water for about an hour before removing it from the water and ensuring that the bag is cool. Then, cut open the tea bag and take out the watered-down tea leaves. In a bowl, mix the tea leaves, baking soda and honey until it forms a paste. You may need to add some water if it is too thick of a consistency.
Put the mask on, leave it on for 15 minutes before exfoliating for a little bit and rinsing it off.
Enjoy!
