When I was just 8 years old, I was put on my first diet. That was the start of my yo-yo dieting journey.

  

I know how hard it is to constantly struggle with fluctuating and creeping weight, year after year. Along with that came the associated fatigue, brain fog, aches,  inflammation, and lack of self-confidence. In my 30’s, I was diagnosed with a host of chronic health conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, Insulin Resistance, Reactive Arthritis, Hypothyroidism, PCOS, and Migraines.  I now know exactly what foods to eat to nourish MY body, while keeping me feeling and looking my best. I can honestly say that I feel better now in my 40’s than I ever felt in my 20’s or 30’s!  This is the benefit of knowing WHAT foods work with YOUR unique body! 

 

My name is Stef! I understand the struggle with food. I have been on a yo-yo diet rollercoaster for most of my life (childhood included).

Our metabolism impacts our health and wellbeing.  And our health and wellbeing impacts our metabolism. 

This is WHY I do what I do now. I love helping others get back on track, so they can look AND feel their best!

I am a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®)  and I hold a Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH).  My CHES® certification is accredited and met the rigorous standards set by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies in order to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of the public.

I am a  mom of two young children and of three rescue dogs.  Along with my husband we run a very crazy household!

As a Health & Wellness Coach, I help my clients overcome their weight-loss resistance, boost energy, boost their metabolism, boost their confidence, improve digestion, and decrease pain and inflammation in the body  – all without guilt or having to give up treats AND while still eating tasty, REAL food!  There are no fake foods and powders to buy.

 My Long Journey With Too Many Doctors

I know how frustrating it is to feel unwell and continuously be told by healthcare professionals that there is nothing wrong or that they don’t know why you keep gaining weight and have no energy.  I saw at least 20 medical professionals and health practitioners in a 15-year timeframe in trying to get answers as to why I felt so horrible all the time.   Not one suggested that my diet could be the root of my problems!  I remember asking one of my new doctors if she could refer me to a nutritionist and she replied: “You know what you need to do”.   Huh?

My chronic fatigue and weight struggles go back to when I was only 8 years old and in the second grade.  Being bloated, chronically tired, and overweight was my ‘normal’ at 8 years old!   So my parents put me on a strict, low carb, no-sugar diet for a month and I lost 10 pounds.  However, this diet was not sustainable for an 8-year old.  Once I was eating what my family  was eating again, within another four weeks, my weight was back up to where is was just two months prior.  

In high school, I was skipping meals and most often only ate at dinnertime to maintain my weight.  However, my crash dieting and unhealthy eating habits caught up with me in my 20’s.  My history of metabolic and hormonal imbalances, further fueled by unhealthy eating habits, caused metabolic chaos in my body. 

By my late 20’s, I was having horrible migraines, melasma on my face, acne, hormonal imbalances, and out-of-control weight gain.  When I turned 28, due to major stress at work, I gained 30 lbs in less than two months.  After learning about the Atkins diet, I was able to lose those 30 lbs in several months of low carb eating.   But this way of eating didn’t leave me much energy and I knew this was not the way to eat for the rest of my life.

The years following were a roller coaster of ups and downs with my weight.  After my first child was born in my 30’s, my low-carb ways no longer worked like before having kids.  The scale wouldn’t budge.   I tried for 6 months to lose weight before my sister’s wedding doing Weight Watchers.  I lost only 7 pounds!!  I even bought a dress two sizes smaller than fit me at the time, hoping that would serve as extra incentive to lose the weight.  Just days before the wedding, I ended up having the dress expanded.  I hate looking back at pictures from my sister’s wedding.

My Weight Roller Coaster 

The weight roller coaster continued as did my hormonal imbalances.  The years following I tried all the big diet plans, from Weight Watchers, to Jenny Craig, to Slim Fast, to  Atkins, and even the HCG Diet.  None helped me keep the weight off without struggling.

It wasn’t until losing my baby in my second pregnancy at 5 months along that I dug deep into researching the ‘why’.   Feeling so out of control and not ready to go into another pregnancy without a grasp on what went wrong in my body,  my own research led me to start checking my own blood sugars with a cheap glucometer I bought at  Walgreens. I tracked my sugars this way for several months and brought my results to my doctor.  This information gave my doctor the data needed to give me the diagnosis of Insulin Resistance, Pre-Diabetes, and eventually Type 2 Diabetes.   There is an epidemic of people walking around today who don’t even know they are prediabetic or diabetic.  It is very underdiagnosed! 

It was at this time that I knew my calling was in the health field.  I made the decision when I was 8 months pregnant to change careers and pursue my Masters Degree in Public Health with a focus on Health Education.  After 3 long years of study, I graduated with Honors with my Masters Degree in Public Health (MPH) and Graduate-level Certificates in Epidemiology and in Health Education.  

Prevention is worth so much more than slapping a band-aid on health problems after they occur.   Our current healthcare system needs to stop treating disease and start preventing it.  If you are here and have read this far, then I know you are serious about  bringing your metabolism and body back into balance so that you can improve your well-being and quality of life!
